He is the author of <\/span><b>Saigon Stories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an oral history of Vietnam (published in 2006), <\/span><b>A World Gone Mad for Marathons<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a nonfiction book on marathons and other sporting events (published in 2019), and <\/span><b>Vietnam \u2013 <\/b><b><i>Asia\u2019s Rising Star<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a book about the future of Vietnam (published in October 2023 in English and July 2024 in Vietnamese). He is the founder of the <\/span><b>Saigon Writers Club<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which hosts private and in-person creative writing classes for people who have always wanted to write and publish fiction.\u00a0 It has hosted 11 creative writing classes and published four short story anthologies with a fifth anthology to be published in 2024.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sam has written extensively on business, culture, education, and sports for several publications. He has published numerous market and industrial research reports about Vietnam and Cambodia for various companies and foreign governments and has been interviewed numerous times by international media including the New York Times, CNN, BBC, Financial Times, Reuters, and other publications. He has traveled to nearly every country in Asia for extended trips. He has studied and can speak Vietnamese (fluent), Mandarin Chinese (survival), and the Philippine dialect of Chavacano (near fluency).\u00a0 Sam has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Montana State University and a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Washington.
